This month’s AIGA Maine Member Spotlight features Board Member, Mia Del Bene. We talked to her about her work, life in Maine, and experience with AIGA.
About Mia:
Mia Del Bene is an interdisciplinary designer as well as a studio owner, design director and arts programming coordinator based in Portland, Maine. Originally from New York, Mia trained at the Pratt Institute and then the Maine College of Art and Design, allowing her to find her perfect slice of paradise in this ocean town arts community.
Mia is a passionate advocate for design thinking in every arena of life; driven by arts, culture, the environment, and the invisible power of people through community, Mia is curious about design in all forms that lead to positive impact and a social change. Mia has been a proud member of AIGA since 2018 via the New York chapter, and now Maine’s.

Q+A with Mia:
Q: Why did you join the AIGA board?
A: AIGA has always been a valuable resource and strong community for working artists hoping to sustain and thrive within creative industries for years to come – I am looking forward to learning more about the organization from the backend and helping our chapter to be a positive influence on the Maine community.
Q: What are you hoping to accomplish while on the board?
A: I would love to help increase connections between generations of designers as well as help new graduates from our community understand how many possibilities they have at their fingertips — creative problem solvers have never been more important in our society.
Q: Anything that inspires you when it comes to design/graphic arts/visual communication?
A: I am endlessly enamored by the power design has to bring about love, connection, community, passion, and education. Design is more powerful than we often credit and most systems, environments and habits we all know and love would not exist without it.
