Member Spotlight: Matt Poor

This month’s AIGA Maine Member Spotlight features Matt Poor. We talked to him about work, his life in Maine, and his experience with AIGA.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.
I am a Creative Director at Questex, which is a global experience company. I have a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons in NYC, where I lived and worked for about 20 years at various gigs. Most of my work is concerned with branding and strategy and helping organizations connect with people.

What brought you to Maine, and how long have you lived here?
Honestly, Brooklyn just got too crowded; I wanted more fresh air for my kids and more connected to the ocean. This is my 5th year living here.

Why did you join AIGA Maine?
I have been a member of AIGA forever; I have found it helpful in expanding my professional network.

What are a few of your favorite spots in Maine
The Crown Jewel on Little Diamond Island. Great food and I can sail to it, so basically, it checks all the boxes for me.

How do you get inspired?
I like to look at everything artistic outside of my area of work. It might be a car designer’s color predictions, a landscape artist’s installation, or an up-and-coming fashion designer’s next line.

Which designers are you following these days?
I’m really digging Family Brothers and Carpenter Collective right now. I always watch Champions Design, but they are friends of mine.

What design trend do you love?
I love the resurgence of old-school two-color printing as a choice (not a constraint) and the really expressive type design I am seeing.

Where should we go to see more of your work?
