This month’s AIGA Maine Member Spotlight features Communications Board Member, India Menninghaus. We talked to her about work, her life in Maine, and her experience with AIGA.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your work.
I’m a freelance designer based in Portland, Maine. I graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with BFA in Visual Communications and started my career in Seattle designing for tech companies. After moving back to my home state of Maine in 2015, I started working for myself with a focus on local, mission-driven businesses here in Maine. When I’m not in front of the computer I’m hiking with my dog Diego or traveling as an excuse to practice my Spanish.
What brought you to Maine and how long have you lived here?
I grew up in Bangor and after a decade away I moved back to Maine to be closer to family.
Why did you join AIGA Maine?
I was part of the SAIC AIGA student chapter in college and appreciated the network as I was starting out as a designer. After moving to Portland I wanted to connect with other creatives in the area and volunteer my time and energy to an organization that had supported me.
What are a few of your favorite spots in Maine?
The Bigelow Preserve
…and a few other secret spots. 🙂
