This familiar phrasing is repeated until it breaks down, exposing how political rhetoric gains power through repetition and saturation rather than substance.
Redactions reference failures of government transparency, while smudges suggest blurring of truth, promises not kept, and narratives rewritten. While the visual language points to a specific figure, the work critiques political corruption more broadly. The inconstancies in messaging are often glaring if we, as Americans, choose to pay attention.
The concluding statement, “Your attention matters,” reframes that language into responsibility, returning agency to the viewer.
