Member Spotlight: Katherine Palmatier, AIGA Maine Secretary, Communications Board Member

This month’s AIGA Maine Member Spotlight features Secretary and Communications Board Member, Katherine Palmatier. We talked to her about work, her life in Maine, and her experience with AIGA.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am originally from Massachusetts and graduated from Suffolk University with a degree in business. After graduation, I spent two additional years in Boston, a year abroad in Sweden, and two years in Texas before moving to Portland in 2014.

I had a life-long interest in art and graphic design and decided to commit to pursuing it as a career after finally getting serious about what she actually wanted to do with her life! Currently, I work for Dechra, a global animal health company with an office in downtown Portland. I focus on team communications, leadership support, event organization, and have begun creating marketing materials for clinical trials and getting my hands on as many other design projects as I can.

Why do you choose to live in Maine?
I love to travel and explore unique places, but as far as where I choose to live, Maine feels like a good home base for me. Being originally from New England, there’s something I prefer about living near the coast and where I can experience all four seasons. Portland is a great little city with lots to offer and has a relaxed feeling that I really enjoy.

Why did you join AIGA Maine?
I wanted to get involved in the graphic arts community here in Maine by meeting and learning from designers and creatives while giving back however I can at the same time.

What are a few of your favorite spots in Maine?

  • SoPo Seafood (@soposeafood) – Everything I’ve had there has been really impressive and so fresh
  • Nestled on Cottage (@nestledoncottage) – A great little vintage homewares store
  • The Greenbelt Pathway – How I get around on my bike
  • Evie’s Ferry Village (@evies.ferryvillage) – A neighborhood spot where I frequently end a night out and play pool, my (sort-of) secret obsession
