Lightning Talk: Creating Public Art in Maine

This event will explore the journey of creating public artworks from the perspectives of two local artists.

Ebenezer Akakpo, a Ghanan-born jewelry maker and designer, will talk about his involvement in creating a city bus shelter in partnership with Creative Portland.

Jan Piribeck, Professor of Digital Art and Foundations at University of Southern Maine, will discuss her process in documenting the effects of climate change on the Maine coast through art, photography, and shared experience.

These presentations will be followed by a short Q&A.

Lightning Talks is a quarterly series created by AIGA Maine in which creative professionals present brief, informal talks to their peers. Each event is centered around a single topic or creative field. Experts are chosen to share examples, anecdotes, tips and ideas in presentations of about 10–15 minutes. Lightning Talks are a chance to take an educational, entertaining glimpse inside the working lives of other creatives.
