Freelancers’ Roundtable: Money Talks—Pricing Demystified

Freelancing is equal parts creative freedom and business hustle. One of the toughest questions we face is simple to ask but hard to answer: What should I charge?

Join AIGA Maine for our next Freelancers’ Roundtable: Money Talks—Pricing Demystified. Two expert panelists will share candid stories, strategies, and lessons learned about setting rates, negotiating with clients, and building a sustainable freelance practice.

Meet the Panelists

Sarah Demers is a brand designer in Portland, Maine. With a passion for visual storytelling, she specializes in logos, illustration, and cohesive brand identities that radiate authenticity. She has worked with small branding agencies, corporate marketing teams, and a wide range of freelance clients. With a love for funky typography, playful color, and thoughtful detail, Sarah brings vibrant energy to her work—whether she’s crafting a striking visual identity or doodling with a fresh marker alongside her sassy French bulldog, Pepper.

Shaun Donnelly is an animator and 3D illustrator based in Arundel, Maine. He and his partner Amy began freelancing together as And How in 2012, creating compelling imagery and video for clients across marketing, business communications, and film & TV. He first got hooked on building digital models of starships back in 8th grade, which turned into a career in computer graphics. (Also, your dog would probably love Shaun.)

This isn’t just for those breaking into freelancing—we invite seasoned creative entrepreneurs, too. Whether you’re freelancing full-time, side-hustling, or just freelance-curious, you’ll walk away with new ideas, peer support, and a stronger sense of community.
