AIGA Maine is excited to present, An Evening with Elena M. Sarni, Author of “Trailblazing Women Printmakers: Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios and the Folly Cove Designers” at Mechanics’s Hall on Tuesday, April 30 from 5:30-7pm.
The Folly Cove Designers, a predominantly women-run block-printing collective in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was founded by Caldecott Award-winner and beloved children’s book author/illustrator Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios (of “The Little House” and “Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel” fame). The lecture will explore the Folly Cove Designers’ Finnish roots, their community and connection to Maine, Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios’s teaching methods and process, signature designs by various group members, and some never-before-seen designs.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the presentation, courtesy of Back Cove Books.
AIGA and Mechanics’ Hall members receive 25% off admission. Click here for discount code.
This event is presented in partnership with Mechanics’ Hall, Back Cove Books and The Frances Perkins Center.
